The object

I was drawn to this Longines by the dial. The sector layout gives each element enough room, while the narrow bezel lets a 33 millimetre watch feel open rather than small. The blued hands only become vivid when the light catches them; most of the time the watch remains composed and quiet.

The hand-wound 12.68Z movement reinforces that impression. Its architecture is direct and serviceable, and winding it each morning keeps the relationship between use and maintenance visible. This is not a watch that pretends to function without care.

The dial has aged evenly, the case shows earlier polishing and the crystal and strap are sympathetic replacements. I have recorded those interventions because they are part of the watch as it exists now. Mechanical work has focused on dependable running rather than cosmetic renewal.

Why I keep it

I keep the Longines because it demonstrates how little a good watch needs: a clear dial, balanced proportions and a movement that a careful watchmaker can continue to maintain.

Provenance

Swiss private collection; acquired by In Use Since in 2021.

Acquisition notes

Selected after inspection for the clarity of the dial and the honest relationship between preserved surfaces and necessary mechanical care.
